History of the TFMC State Junior Festival

Celebrating our 35th Year!

The State Junior Festival was organized in 1975 as a project by the Texas Federation of Music Clubs State President, Laurel Ince.  The first convention was held on April 30 and May 1, 1976 at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos.  For a number of years it was a two day convention with Juniors holding offices.  There were workshops, distinguished guest speakers and a banquet on Saturday evening in addition to adjudications for the All State Musician award.

Festivals have been held at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University), Texas Christian University, Baylor University, Mary Hardin Baylor University, University of Houston, Texas Tech University and currently at Texas State University in San Marcos.  2010 is the 14th year that Cathy Neidert has served as the TFMC State Festival Charman. Through it's 35 year history the Festival has continued to grow with an increasing number of scholarships presented each year during the All State Recital.
